Arizona Auto Insurance Information

A study was conducted a few years ago that estimated that as many as 1/3 of all drivers on the road in Arizona either do not carry any insurance. A few laws have been passed since then to combat this terrible problem for Arizonans.

Arizona State Department of Motor Vehicles requires that all drivers on highways of the state of Arizona carry a minimum of 15/30/10 BIPD. Failure to do say my result in any or all of the following:

  • Suspension of Registration - The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division will suspend the registration on your automobile due to lack of minimum required financial responsibility. In the event this happens, you will need to obtain coverage as well as an SR-22 in order to have your registration reinstated.
  • Suspension of License - Insurance and Registration in Arizona go hand in hand. Generally without insurance the registration will be promptly suspended. Many people often get photo radar or photo stop light or traffic tickets without realizing it and miss their court date. Arizona will suspend the license of the driver that fails to appear in court for these types of tickets.
  • Large Fines - Fines in excess of $500 are commonly assessed to drivers who have been stopped by Law Enforcement and are not able to prove Financial Responsibility. Generally, if you do have insurance but dont have the paperwork with you, a judge will reduce or dismiss the charges. However, driving without insurance will result in a large fine!
  • Impound of Vehicle for 30 days - A new law went into effect in Arizona. Law Enforcement has the option of impounding the motor vehicle for 30 days if the driver is shown to have no-insurance, no license and no current registration. Arizona is also very prompt to suspend registration if insurance is reported to be lapsed or cancelled without being replaced with new coverage. Generally if there is no insurance, there is no registration in this state. People quite often have a suspended license without knowing it. All 3 of these together will have your car landed in impound!

BIPD or Bodily Injury and Property Damage

Commonly referred to as Liability Insurance for your automobile, this coverage is paid out in the event of an At-Fault Accident. This covers damage sustained to other drivers and the property owned by others up to the specified limit on the insurance policy.

UM / UIM - Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist

This coverage pays occupants of your vehicle in the event you are involved in an accident with another person and it isnt your fault, however they failed to carry minimum Liability BIPD coverage or none at all. This coverage will also take over in the event that damages exceed the limits the other driver has on their policy.

Comprehensive Coverage

The Comprehensive or Comp Deductible covers your vehicle in the case of losses classified as other than collision. Meaning that it covers pretty much everything else that may happen to your car except for cases where you are involved in an accident or collision that is your fault.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage covers your vehicle in the event of an At-Fault loss by a driver of your car. Collision is generally defined as a crash involving another vehicle or object and roll-over or upset of the vehicle. Collision claims are generally counted against the driver of the automobile at the time of the collision. When you get an Auto Quote from Get Covered USA, you should indicate if you have had this type of loss for the most accurate quote possible. Many companies will not accept a driver with certain incidents on their driving record or some will accept them but charge an inflated rated because of the accident. There is a different appetite for each company when it comes to the type of driver presented as an insured. Some dont rate as harshly as others for at-fault accidents while others will.

Towing

Towing or Roadside Assistance coverage is an endorsement on your auto policy that will allow your car to be towed at no cost or at a pre-specified covered amount on your policy. The coverage also often allows for roadside assistance in the event of key lockout, or run out of gas type of situations as well. Towing coverage often is very inexpensive. Some companies require that you have Physical Damage (comp + collision) coverage on the car to obtain towing coverage.

Glass Waiver of Deductible

Glass Waiver of Deductible or Glass Buyback coverage is specifically for coverage on your windshield or other auto windows. Glass breakage is perhaps the most common claim made overall for automobiles. Insurance companies will offer to you at additional cost, the option of having a $0 deductible to replace glass in your auto. This coverage is tied to your Comprehensive deductible, so you must have that in order to benefit from the glass coverage endorsement.

Medical or Medpay

Medical Coverage on your Auto Policy is a First Pay coverage. We at Get Covered USA highly recommend this coverage because of this. For example, you are involved in an accident (regardless of fault) and you are injured and taken to a hospital. You will immediately begin to accumulate medical bills. If you have medpay coverage then the insurance company will pay these as they become due. The alternatives are for your health insurance to cover the bills, which many treatments may be declined or if you dont have any health coverage at all you will be responsible for everything out of pocket. BIPD, UM and UIM will cover your medical damages, however these coverages do not kick in until all treatments have been completed! Medpay coverage might be available under a Liability Only type policy!

Arizona Home Insurance Information

Arizona has a wide array of terrain types. Many people think of the state as primarily Desert, however the entire northern section is quite mountainous. Areas such as Flagstaff, Pinetop, Grand Canyon, Payson and Williams and for example are around the Mogollon Rim. They can have colder temperatures in the winter which have the possibility of severe weather such as snow and thunderstorms in the summer. Forests often present problems with tree falling or fire danger.

As the Mogollon Rim drops off into the valley area the transitional cities such as Sedona, Cottonwood and Prescott have a mix of warm climate and the potential for snow and moderately chilly climate.

The valley and desert Areas of Arizona such as Phoenix Metro (Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Peoria, Chandler), Yuma and Tucson have the other extreme of temperature on the warm side. Temperatures in the peak of summer can often exceed 120º.

Arizona is however not considered to be a dangerous state to live in with regards to Earthquakes, Hurricanes and such. There is a possibility of Flood in some areas depending on elevation or if the home is built upon a flood plane, but for the most part the only real danger is the home itself and not the elements.

Judges who ignore no-bail law may as well give you the finger - azcentral.com 3-21-07 Phoenix: It's now been 17 days since Jocabed Dominguez-Torres was arrested and accused of getting drunk, running a red light and killing a 20-year-old Peoria man. Seventeen days since the courts were notified that she's in this country illegally and thus can't be released from jail under a new law approved by voters. So what, you might ask, have our judges and commissioners done to comply with the overwhelming will of the people? They set bail. Then they reconsidered. And lowered her bail. (more)
